In June 2006, at the invitation of The Girls' Brigade Singapore, Temasek Applied Science School was involved in the Overseas Community Project "Water for Living, Books for Learning" by imparting nutrition knowledge and skills to the women and children in Cambodia. The Girls' Brigade Singapore has since engaged the School regularly on providing overseas community service in Baray, Cambodia. Besides nutrition education to meet the needs of the community, the School has also expanded its capabilities by conducting health education, imparting culinary skills and knowledge in managing cafeteria, and using local resources to improve the livelihood of villagers in the Baray village.
This time in October 2008, 5 diploma teams from the School headed to Cambodia on the following activities:
- Health Education Workshop
Mission: To impart knowledge on health related topics such as diabetes and women's health to community health educators and women leaders nominated by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Cambodia
Diploma: 12 students from Biomedical Science
- Using local resources to improve the livelihoods of villagers
Mission: To construct cooking stove with improved heat transfer efficiency and produce sugar syrups from germinated wheat grains
Diploma: 10 students from Chemical Engineering
- Nutrition Education Workshop
Mission: To impart nutrition knowledge by promoting healthy dietary practices and lifestyles through talks and cooking demonstrations to community health educators nominated by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Cambodia
