Temasek Applied Science School (ASc) provides international students with many opportunities for personal and academic development during their 3-year duration of study. Upon arrival, all new international students are oriented to the School and the Polytechnic campus.
A 12-hour Language Bridging Programme is conducted for all year one international students before the commencement of their course of study. Through this programme, the School aims to increase international students’ overall level of English language proficiency and prepare them for their academic studies at the Temasek Applied Science School. The Language Bridging Programme includes:
- an introduction to grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
- development of the four main skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- strategies for answering questions in examinations
- advice on independent learning
Two proficiency assessments (pre-diagnostic and post-diagnostic) are also administered to all year one international students to measure students’ progress in language acquisition. These assessments help the School to gauge the language abilities of the international students.
