The Differential Research Program (DRP) is a 90-hour enrichment programme that offers students early exposure to scientific research. Students can opt into the program at three entry points during the first two years of studies, i.e. Year 1 Semester 2, Year 2 Semester 1, and Year 2 Semester 2. A DRP student may accumulate up to 270 hours of research training and development prior to the Major Project in the 3rd year of study.
The DRP provides a headstart for students in project and research work and enables them to have a better appreciation of the subject content in their course of study. This early introduction into research also compensates for the learning curve in research methodology and skills that they would otherwise encounter later in the course. It is likely that students would be able to achieve more in the Major Project in the 3rd year of study.
Examples of DRP projects are in the areas of research in hydroponics, molecular biology, baking science, food product development, biomedical science etc.
