This project aims to revise the existing Nutrition & Fitness guide developed by former Temasek Polytechnic students, through a pilot-test on 13 TAF facilitators from secondary schools in the eastern part of Singapore. Knowledge and opinions on the feasibility of the existing guide and the facilitators' willingness to integrate the suggested new ideas into their curriculum were sought. The TAF facilitators felt the content of the existing guide was too theoretical and lacked practical skills needed for the management of obesity. Since most of the TAF activities are conducted during recess time, the suggested activities had to be short yet interesting. The revised faciliators' guide is now made more simple, practical and user-friendly.
The objectives of the project were to:
-assess the suitability of the existing TAF facilitator's guide by pilot testing the guide on 13 selected secondary schools through an interviewer-based questionnaire
- revise the existing guide for implementation at secondary schools
The revised facilitator's guide would contain an activity book that includes:
- Physical activities/games
- hybrid/variety of games
- symbols that categorise the games by different components of physical fitness
- Nutrition activities/games
- interactive indoor games such as a nutrition board game, charades, puzzles and meal planning and cooking competition
- outdoor activities such as supermarket tour and treasure hunt
It would also contain practical tips on behavior modification, healthy eating and snacking, and physical activity.
