With the recent emphasis on inculcating innovation and creativity among our students, two teams from Diploma in Chemical Engineering and Temasek Design School took part in the “Waste to Wow” competition jointly organised by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), Ricoh, Green Volunteer Movement (GVM) and the National Library Board (NLB). The competition was held on 22 April 2006 (Saturday) at the NLB atrium in conjunction with Earth Day. Prior to this, teams were given 6 months to work on discarded waste parts provided by Ricoh to come out with innovative and useful products.
There were 92 teams from Schools, JCs, ITEs and Polytechnics. Both our teams made it to the Final 14. During the Finals, one of our team, Team Deep Blue Sea, won the 3rd Prize with their “Proto-Pick” – a portable table tennis/golf ball picker. The other team, Team Green Earth, won a consolation prize with “Wow! Dispenser” - a pet food dispenser.
