Grace Soh and Joanna Ang both love to cook. Being alert chemical engineering students, they noticed that a significant amount of heat was lost through the sides of stoves (be it from the flames or the hot stoves). They were also well aware that the relentless rise of prices of commodities (eg electricity, cooking gas) had caused their household spending to increase.
Grace and Joanna thus seized the opportunity provided by TP's Innovation Competition 2007 to put forward their idea of harnessing heat from a kitchen stove and using the escaping heat to heat water for daily use (eg bathing, easier removal of oil). This was done in the hope of reducing the homeowner's dependency on electricity/gas for heating purposes. This idea clinched one of two SILVER awards presented at TP's Innovation Competition 2007. No project won the GOLD award.
