The Green Wave Environmental Care Competition is organised by Sembawang Shipyard to promote green awareness and innovation in students. Students from the Diploma in Chemical Engineering have been actively participating in the competition since 2004.  In the 2004 competition, students Jovina Tan, Kenneth Lim and Nurul Huda applied the concepts of energy conservation and thermodynamics taught in their course to recover waste heat energy from an air-conditioning unit. This concept can help to reduce electrical consumption in homes and buildings, thereby conserving the environment and achieving cost savings at the same time. This project won the merit award.
