The newly constructed Plant Tissue Culture Training Facility is able to mass produce up to 10,000 sterile plantlets per month.  Equipped with laminar flow hoods and a growth room with mobile racks and supported by comprehensive operating procedures for the various steps of mass-producing tissue culture plantlets, we have successfully sealed an agreement to collaborate with a nursery to help produce several thousands of orchid plantlets per month for the hobbyist market.  Using tissue culture protocols developed in-house, the Unit has also churned out a few hundred plantlets of heliconia and ginger for a local company to export to neighbouring countries.  In addition, specially packaged sterile plantlets produced by the Unit are distributed to gift shops to be sold to tourists as souvenirs.

The excellent facilities and track records of ASc make it an attractive partner for supporting the ornamental plant industry through collaborative projects and consultancy.  The School welcomes the opportunity to work with any interested organisations to mass produce rare and exotic tropical plants.  We also provide tissue culture plantlets for retail outlets frequented by tourists and schools as a teaching aid.
