Training Courses:
(1) For the biomedical / life sciences industry: – Responsible Care and Use of Laboratory Animals Course
Temasek Polytechnic is recognised by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) as a training provider of the basic training course on responsible care and use of laboratory animals for scientific work. The course, which is a regulatory requirement, meets the training guidelines of the National Advisory Committee for Laboratory Animal Research (NACLAR) in Singapore. It is targeted at research and technical personnel directly or indirectly involved in animal care and/or use at research institutions and companies.
The course on Responsible Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, comprising e-lectures and 1-day hands-on workshop, aims to provide a fundamental understanding of basic animal experimentation requirements, proper animal handling and use as well as responsibilities of researchers. At the end of the course, participants will be expected to:
- recognise and relate to the role and responsibilities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- apply the 3Rs principles in planning and developing their animal related work/study.
- demonstrate animal care and handling as well as common laboratory techniques on animals.
- acquire basic understanding of surgery and anaesthesia requirements.
Since the commencement of this course in 2005, TP has trained research and technical support staff from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, National Neuroscience Institute, Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory.
