Nisha bte Rafiq, a third year Diploma in Biomedical Science student, was one of four recipients of the IBN Promising Young Researcher Award for 2007. She demonstrated resourcefulness by participating in IBN-A*STAR's Youth Research Programme and successfully securing her 5-month internship at the established Institute of Bioengineering and Nantechnology (IBN). During the same period, she successfully completed her major project entitled "Nano-structured Cationic Polymers for Gene Delivery". Nisha attributes her success to Temasek Applied Science School's "Differential Research Programme" where she had the opportunity to be involved in research during the semester holidays as early as in year 1 of her diploma studies. The interest nurtured in her, the aspiration to become a clinician scientist so that she would be able to provide the best treatment and patient care in the future.
